About Me
Nate Fuss
Starting at a young age growing up in Indianapolis you could anyways find me with a box of 64 Crayolas (built-in sharpner of course) and some sort of coloring book. Early 90's comic books and trading cards were a big inspiration for me but when I received a copy of The Scary Stories Treasury illustrated by Stephen Gammell my love for art and illustration was forever cemented.
I eventually went on to study studio art and art history at Indiana University where my interests in figure drawing and print making (mostly silkscreen) were first sparked. German Expressionism, Art Nouveau, Pop Art, and Abstract Expressionism are styles that still influence me. I continually look to artists like Mucha, Schad, JMW Turner, Bridgman, Wesselmann, and Warhol just to name a few. I am also a big fan of the Scifi and Horror genres both in film and literature.
I am self-taught painter having never taken painting classes in school. I work mostly in acrylic, but I also use charcoal, pastel and drawing ink. Most of the time I will do a little editing on my tablet after I've finished to sharpen things up. But you will have to please excuse the quality of some of my images as I never claimed to be a photographer and I try and not take myself too seriously. I often think back to what a drawing teacher in college once said to me. "Nate, I feel like your a mediocre artist with moments of brilliance." And I thought to myself, maybe in the end, that's all you need.
